LLLT (low-level light therapy) is a treatment that utilizes lasers, or light energy below a specific energy threshold and within a specific wavelength, to help promote hair growth.

LLLT has been shown to promote hair growth in both men and women with androgenetic alopecia. Research indicates that LLLT is absorbed into the cells, and this triggers enhanced cellular activity. The LLLT is thought to make aging cells more active, which works to increase their effectiveness in hair growth however; there is currently not enough research to be sure how the treatment works.

The exact mechanism of how LLLT works has not yet been explored, at this current time research has only indicated how it is believed to work. Some studies have shown that the treatment has promoted hair growth.

The treatment has however only highlighted promoted growth on those who has Androgenetic alopecia. The treatment works best on those with thinning hair and pattern baldness caused by a hereditary condition. The treatment will not work on everyone, and it is unlikely to work on those with very little to no hair.
